After significant offseason hype, the Pittsburgh Steelers disappointingly started the 2023 season.

They lost to the San Francisco 49ers by a score of 30-7, not the result the team was looking for.

After this loss, Kenny Pickett took on a lot of the blame as evidenced by his conversation with Chris Adamski of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Per Pickett via Pro Football Talk, “I thought the preparation for the week was good,” adding, “It was just throwing and the execution.”

Pickett finished the game with 232 passing yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions.

While the 49ers have one of the NFL’s top defenses, the expectations were much higher than Pickett’s reality throughout this game.

He would have liked the interceptions back, and as a whole, did not play his best game.

Pickett acknowledged his shortcomings, and will now have an opportunity to build on his mistakes heading into Week 2.

The Steelers do not want to start with season with a 0-2 record, a difficult hole to dig out of.

With an impending date with the Cleveland Browns, Pickett will want to ensure he’s in the best possible position to succeed.

The Browns have an opportunistic defense, one that took full advantage of Joe Burrow’s mistakes in Week 1.

Can the Steelers overcome their performance from a week ago, hoping for greater success on both sides of the ball?

That remains to be seen.

Thankfully, they have an extra day to prepare for this hard-nosed matchup, as they are one of the two Monday Night Football games of the week.
