The Denver Nuggets fell short in their pursuit of a second consecutive NBA championship this past season when they fell in Game 7 of the second round to the Minnesota Timberwolves after a brutal series that many believed was the best of the postseason.
Their former starting shooting guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope recently got honest about what happened this past season that led to their premature downfall.
ClutchPoints shared a clip from KCP’s appearance on The Draymond Green Show, and he said “We had no gas. We felt like the Lakers should have beaten us. We was down every game.”

The Nuggets took down the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round but trailed big in nearly every game, and it was clear that they might not be as unbeatable as they seemed in 2022-23.
They went down 2-0 to the Timberwolves in the second round before seemingly finding their groove and winning the next three games, but they got demolished by 45 points in Game 6 and blew a 20-point second-half lead in Game 7.
KCP left the team and signed with the Orlando Magic this offseason, and the Nuggets haven’t done much of anything to replace him, which is a worrisome subplot heading into next season for them given how crucial KCP was as a 3-and-D role player for years alongside Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray.
Winning championships is exhausting and adds an extra two months of high-intensity basketball onto the end of an already-taxing regular season, not to mention having to do it all in the Denver altitude.
It’s no wonder the Nuggets were tired.
