The Phoenix Suns have had their fair share of ups and downs in the 2023-24 NBA season.

Sure, Kevin Durant has been sensational for the organization, but the long absence of Bradley Beal due to a back injury has kept the Suns from unlocking their true potential this season.

Keeping that in mind, had Beal been available to play during the Suns’ quarter-finals matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers, the result could have gone in their favor.

Speaking of the matchup, a controversial call against the Suns in the fourth quarter of the game probably helped the Lakers win the game.

Kevin Durant was asked about his thoughts on the call, and the two-time NBA champion didn’t disappoint with his answer via Mark Medina on Twitter.

“That is not the game, that’s just one play,” Durant said.

The call we are talking about is when Austin Reaves seemingly fumbled the ball with just 7.3 seconds remaining on the clock.

It felt like Reaves lost the ball, and the Suns would get an easy shot to tie the game with the franchise trailing by just two points.

However, on a closer look, LeBron James called for a timeout just in time to ensure that the ball stayed in the Lakers’ hands.

Despite the controversial call, Kevin Durant isn’t blaming the loss on that one play.

Instead, the former NBA MVP believes the Suns should have played better to win the game.

Following the loss, the Suns have been eliminated from the NBA In-Season Tournament.

They also slipped to the seventh seed in the Western Conference with a 12-9 record.
