Kevin Durant was back in Brooklyn on Wednesday night, playing against the Nets for the first time since leaving them to join the Phoenix Suns.
Because of his return, fans and analysts were remembering his time with the Nets and how the team had so much potential and so many problems.
Speaking with Tim Bontemps, Durant opened up a bit about what could have been and where things went wrong during his tenure in Brooklyn.
Durant said:
“We didn’t have enough time together. That’s just it. Guys wanted to go their separate ways. We tried our hardest to, you know, salvage everything and everything together. We had three or four different teams [from] when I signed here until when I left.”
I asked Kevin Durant if he ever thinks about what could have been with the Nets. Per usual, Durant gave a really interesting, and thoughtful, answer.

In just a matter of a few years, things looked really good and then really bad for the Nets.
Durant came to the team with Kyrie Irving and breathed new life into the struggling franchise.
Shortly after, other star players moved to Brooklyn too, with people like Blake Griffin, LaMarcus Aldridge, James Harden, Patty Mills, Seth Curry, and more joining the team.
But the Nets had a ton of issues, from numerous injuries, roster changes, Irving’s off-court statements and absences, and more.
In the end, Durant wanted a change of scenery and made his way to the Suns last season.
He is right that he showed up at work every day and tried his hardest.
Even with several injuries, Durant was still a star player and did some incredible things for the team, even bringing them very close to the Eastern Conference Finals.
But for many reasons, this dream team was never able to develop as people, including Durant, had wished.
