LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers recently made NBA history – again – when he reached 40,000 career points.
That is an accomplishment that no other NBA player has ever done, or may ever do.
It was a singular, historic moment for the league, and Kevin Garnett believes it was a missed opportunity.
Talking on “All The Smoke,” via NBACentral, Garnett said the game should have been briefly stopped after James scored 40,000.
He believes that players, fans, and the league should have paid homage to James and also gathered up just about everything he was wearing at that moment because it all deserves to be at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

Last season, James surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and earned the most all-time career points in the history of the NBA.
That was also a massive moment for the league and the game did stop for a short amount of time.
But this time, nothing like that happened and James and his Lakers continued to play.
Garnett thinks that’s disrespectful to James and the moment.
He doesn’t believe that anyone else will ever pass 40,000 points and this once-in-a-lifetime occasion should have been marked in some substantial way.
At this point, James is crossing so many amazing thresholds and breaking so many NBA records that it’s hard to stop the game each time it happens.
But some moments are bigger than others and reaching 40,000 points really was something special.
Perhaps the most amazing thing about James earning 40,000 points is that he is now just building upon that total.
He likely still has a few more years left in him so he will continually add more and more points on top of the 40,000.
That means that it’ll be even harder for anyone else to surpass his grand total.
