The two-way big man is a disappearing breed in today’s NBA.

It’s not very usual to see skilled bigs dominate on offense and defense, with most being either rim protectors with no touch on offense or stretch bigs who can’t make an impact on defense.

Of course, there is a handful of them who could take another step and reach a whole new level of their game under the proper guidance.

That’s why, when asked which players he’d like to mentor in today’s game, NBA legend Kevin Garnett chose Kristaps Porzingis and Karl-Anthony Towns.

If I had the choice to mentor any young cats in the league it would be Porzingis or KAT. I see they game and think there’s a lot of knowledge I could provide them to take their game to the next level https://t.co/0I5hKmMWsD pic.twitter.com/cD1eiRDYDr

While they’re both 28 years old, they could definitely use some mentorship from one of the most dominant two-way bigs this game has ever seen.

Porzingis has taken big strides on defense, and he’s already proven himself as a guy who can stretch the floor with his shooting.

Still, he’s lacking that killer instinct at times, and that’s where a guy like Garnett could come in handy.

As for Towns, he’s failed to establish himself as a leader, and he’s always been a liability on the defensive end of the floor.

While there’s no doubt that he’s one of the most offensively gifted big men ever, and he does have some nice block numbers, Garnett could help him take his pick-and-roll defense to at least a decent level.

As for his character, some guys aren’t meant to be alphas, and that’s perfectly fine, but an angry KAT should be a scary thought for the rest of the league.
