The Minnesota Vikings have a new franchise quarterback.
J.J. McCarthy was the guy they wanted all along, and they didn’t have to do much to get him.
There have been mixed reviews about him dating back to his days in college.
And while some thought he was a dark horse to be the best — or one of the best — quarterbacks in this class, others thought he was still quite raw.
Apparently, that’s not the case.
In a recent talk with Rich Eisen, HC Kevin O’Connell revealed that McCarthy has actually gotten some reps and work with the first-team offense (via The Purple Persuasion).
HC Kevin O’Connell says #Vikings rookie QB J.J. McCarthy HAS gotten some work with the first team offense
“He’s had a great spring. He’s off to a really good start. You know transitioning into a new offense a bunch of new teammates, new players, he gets a ton of work… pic.twitter.com/tju5usj5xS

O’Connell gushed about McCarthy and the way he’s been able to adapt to a new offense and new teammates so quickly.
There have been contrasting reports about McCarthy and whether he’s going to have a chance to play in his rookie campaign.
Early reports claimed that he was inconsistent like most rookies, and while there were promising signs, he still needed to put plenty of work in.
Others stated that he might even start off the season as QB3 behind Sam Darnold and Nick Mullens.
O’Connell’s system is quite QB-friendly, and they have the perfect supporting cast for a rookie signal-caller, not to mention the fact that Darnold is just getting familiar with the system as well.
All things considered, it would be kind of surprising if the Vikings didn’t decide to give their first-round pick a look at some point in the season, even if it’s just for a couple of games.
