The Minnesota Vikings have an important decision to make ahead of the 2024 season.
After losing Kirk Cousins to the Atlanta Falcons in the offseason, they needed to come up with alternative options at quarterback.
They have narrowed it down to two players, as they signed Sam Darnold in the offseason, and selected J.J. McCarthy in the first round of this year’s draft.
With these two quarterbacks in mind, fans, reporters, and analysts have all been wondering who will be under center in Week 1 for this team.
Head Coach Kevin O’Connell was recently asked about his plans at quarterback in the Vikings’ first preseason game, which he answered in a press conference shared via Vegas Sports Today on Twitter.
“There is a general plan for not only the quarterbacks, but all of our guys, and we’ll keep you posted. It’s not a matter of any kind of game planning secrets for this game more so than any other preseason game we’ve ever had,” O’Connell said.
O’Connell added that he wants “them to hear it from myself and coaches first,” rather than hearing it from him via a press conference.

O’Connell seems to have a defined timeline as to when he’ll name a starter for this game, but he doesn’t want to make that public knowledge yet.
For now, he’s going to keep that within the team, perhaps not revealing a starter until much closer to when the game will start.
Darnold and McCarthy might both get a chance to play, but who will start remains to be seen.
