Keyshawn Johnson Responds To ‘Historical’ Comments By Jets Defender

The New York Jets are quite excited ahead of the upcoming campaign, and rightfully so.

They have the potential to make it to the Super Bowl for the first time in decades.

Aaron Rodgers’ arrival has raised their floor and ceiling drastically.

However, their defense might as well be what ends up making the biggest difference here.

Jets CB D.J. Reed recently went on record to say that they could have a historically great defense, just like the 1985 Chicago Bears or the “Legion of Boom” Seattle Seahawks.

That’s why former Super Bowl champion Keyshawn Johnson wanted to pump the brakes on those comments.

D.J. Reed says Jets defense can be ‘historical’ like the Legion of Boom:

“Slow it down. You got to win championships. The Bears, Bucs, Seattle, they all won. They got a lot to accomplish first.” — @keyshawn pic.twitter.com/igfWIfdpYo

As much as he thinks the Jets can have a very solid defense next season, he took offense at the fact that Reed did all that talking when they haven’t even won a championship.

That makes sense, but it’s not like Reed said that they were already as good as them; he talked about them having the potential to be historically great, which is not the same thing.

Also, that speaks volumes of their confidence ahead of the start of the season, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.

The Jets have the personnel to live up to those words.

Of course, they have to prove it on the field, as paper doesn’t win football games, let alone championships; we get that.

But only time will tell if Reed was on point with his comments, and Johnson’s words will only motivate this team even more ahead of the season opener.
