Even though the National Football League has become a passer’s league and running backs seem to be more expendable by the day, we still have some major difference-makers wreaking havoc out of the backfield.

It’s getting more common to see running backs from fall grace overnight, and teams seem less willing to commit money and time to keep them around once they start losing a step.

Even so, a handful of guys continue to dominate and make the most of every single one of the touches they get, which is why former NFL star Keyshawn Johnson recently put together his list of the top-five running backs in the league right now.

At No. 5, Johnson went with Green Bay Packers star Aaron Jones, who might have a big workload on his hands come next season, as Jordan Love is still a bit of a question mark as he heads toward his first campaign as a starter.

Then, he chose Saquon Barkley, who might not even get to play at all next season, as he’s threatening to hold out unless he gets a new contract, which seems unlikely at this point in the offseason.

Nick Chubb got the nod at No. 3, which makes perfect sense, even if Deshaun Watson’s presence makes him take a bit of a step back in 2023.

At No. 2, he chose Christian McCaffrey, the best pass-catching back in the league and a guy whose lone Achilles heel seems to be his health.

Last, but not least, he chose Josh Jacobs, perhaps the most underrated bell-cow RB in the league.
