On Monday, UConn’s Dan Hurley rejected a sizable offer from the Los Angeles Lakers to become the team’s next head coach.

But was the offer sizable enough?

Speaking on Tuesday’s “Undisputed,” Keyshawn Johnson got into the negotiations between both sides and said the Lakers came up woefully short.

“The Lakers got cheap,” Johnson said, stating that the front office should have put up a lot more when they were trying to get Hurley.

Johnson listed a number of reasons why the Lakers didn’t do enough in their pursuit of Hurley.

Yes, they were offering him the keys to a historic NBA franchise but they weren’t putting enough money on the table, Johnson claimed.

Hurley already has a very good job and security at UConn, plus he is close to his family and friends.

If the Lakers wanted him to pack up his things and move to the West Coast, they needed to put up more than six years and $70 million.

Johnson said that this is a troubling trend seen by the Lakers many times before.

They do not offer enough to prospective coaches and talent and think they can woo them simply by the power of their franchise alone.

Many people are saying the Lakers didn’t handle this entire situation well.

They wanted Hurley and they pursued him hard but they didn’t do it the right way and now they are left without a head coach and with a lot of baggage and embarrassment.

Plus, they don’t have a lot of time to find a replacement for Darvin Ham before the draft in a few weeks.

They wanted to be done at this point but the Lakers are surely working hard behind the scenes to locate the next person to lead them.
