There is no doubt that the Milwaukee Bucks fell short of their goals last season, but did they really fail?

Following their exit from the playoffs in the first round, Giannis Antetokounmpo talked about the state of the team and pushed back against the idea of the season being a failure.

Now his teammate Khris Middleton is speaking about failure as well.

Talking to JJ Redick on “The Old Man & The Three” podcast, Middleton said failing is about so much more than just losing in a game or a playoff series.

“I look at failure as when you just don’t try,” Middleton said.

He added: “If you’re not trying, you’re failing.”

Middleton suggested that if someone determines failure based on winning or losing then nearly everyone would be a failure.

Only one team can ultimately win it all in the end but that doesn’t mean every squad that lost failed.

This is a smart mindset and one that could help the Bucks bounce back next season.

They were considered Finals contenders for all of 2022-23, but some bad luck, tough competition, and injuries got in their way.

Back in June, Antetokounmpo said that as long as you are working toward a goal, you are succeeding.

He said that losing in the playoffs doesn’t mean the season was a failure.

“Michael Jordan played 15 years, won six championships; the other nine years was a failure?” he said.

It seems that he and his teammate agree on this matter.

That is good because they are definitely two of the most important parts of this Milwaukee team.

Last year might not be considered a failure by them but it certainly didn’t go the way they expected.

In the season ahead, both Middleton and Antetokounmpo will try hard which means no matter how things turn out, they will not fail.
