The Sacramento Kings recently clinched a spot in the NBA playoffs for the first time since 2006, and it meant it was time for their rabid fans to celebrate.

The team’s rallying cry all season long has been “light the beam,” and fans certainly lit the beam on Wednesday when the Kings claimed their spot in the postseason with a 120-80 drubbing of the Portland Trail Blazers.

De’Aaron Fox, the team’s talented point guard, said the celebration was so wild that a fan threw a bag of In-N-Out, a fast-food chain in California, into his car.

It has been quite a season for Sacramento, a team that has been a laughingstock for much of its NBA existence.

Not too many people expected it to make the playoffs when this season began, but it currently sits in third place in the Western Conference with a 47-30 record.

The Kings may end up losing early in the playoffs, especially if they face a team such as the Golden State Warriors or Los Angeles Lakers in the first round, but this has already been a giant step forward for them.

They haven’t fielded a team this good since the early 2000s when they were perennial championship contenders behind Chris Webber, Mike Bibby and Peja Stojakovic.

Sacramento boasts two All-Stars in Fox and big man Domantas Sabonis, as well as plenty of supporting talent, which has resulted in it leading the NBA in scoring at 121.2 points per game.

There is plenty of reason for hope moving forward for fans of the team.
