The Sacramento Kings want to win, and they want to win now.
That’s why they’ve been so active in the free-agent and trade market, trying to get another star.
And another star they finally got.
Mike Brown’s squad was able to pull off a sign-and-trade deal for DeMar DeRozan, sending Harrison Barnes to the San Antonio Spurs and Chris Duarte, cash considerations, and a couple of second-round picks to the Chicago Bulls.
DeRozan will be tied to the organization for the next three seasons.
Needless to say, that might not particularly be the best news for Keon Ellis from an individual standpoint, but he knows how big of a deal this could be for the organization.
Talking to the media after a Summer League game, Ellis showered DeRozan with praise, calling him an All-Star-caliber player and talking about the impact he might have on the team (Via Cameron Salerno).

With Davion Mitchell no longer in the picture and Kevin Huerter losing some ground due to injury and inconsistent play late in the season, Ellis was in the mix to get some expanded minutes this season.
Now, DeRozan’s arrival might change the plans for the coaching staff.
DeRozan’s fit is slightly questionable, as he’s a non-shooter who could hurt their offensive spacing.
However, great players often make things work and find a way to coexist on the court.
Also, with the Kings looking to convince De’Aaron Fox to sign a contract extension and stay put in Sac-Town, this may have been the best decision they could’ve made.
