Despite coming off an Achilles tear in the 2023 NFL season, Kirk Cousins got the deal he was looking for in free agency as he signed a massive four-year deal to join the Atlanta Falcons.

The Falcons were one of the most desperate teams in need of a quarterback and they made a large commitment to Cousins as they signed him to a $180 million deal with $100 million guaranteed.

Cousins had a strong 2023 NFL season before getting hurt, so the money can be justified from a production standpoint though his long-term health is going to be a question mark.

While most of the talk about Atlanta has been about their confounding use of the No. 8 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft to take Michael Penix Jr., the NFL is also investigating the team for tampering with Cousins before the official start of free agency.

For the first time since signing with Atlanta, Cousins publicly commented on the tampering allegations.

The league’s still kind of going through that,” Cousins said. “So, I’ll let them do it. But there’s not a whole lot there.”

Should the league find any solid proof that Atlanta and Cousin were illegally in contact with each other, then the team could be punished in the form of a fine and loss of draft picks.

Regardless, Cousins and the rest of the organization will have to wait and see what comes about from the league’s investigation.
