The Golden State Warriors had hope after a rough start to this season that perhaps they could recapture their old magic and do something magnificent in the playoffs.
They won 10 of their last 12 regular-season games and took that momentum into Tuesday’s play-in tournament game against the Sacramento Kings.
But Golden State got smacked by the Kings, 118-94, and now they face an uncertain future, partly because guard Klay Thompson is about to become a free agent.
After the game, a reporter asked Thompson about his future with the team, and he got mad, per 95.7 The Game.
“We don’t want to talk about the season first? Wanna talk about the future… What’s up with y’all not wanting to live in the present, bro? It’s ridiculous,” he said.

Thompson was one of the cornerstones of Golden State’s dynasty, and he will go down as one of the greatest shooters in basketball history regardless of what happens with him from here on out.
But he’s clearly not the same player he was several years ago.
He tore his ACL during the 2019 NBA Finals and missed all of the next season, then he tore his Achilles and was forced to sit out all of the 2020-21 campaign.
He returned the following year, and although he didn’t start to resemble his old self until late in the schedule, the Warriors were red-hot to start the season and ended up winning their fourth world championship of the Curry-Thompson era.
But since then, they have been in slow decline, and Thompson’s own personal decline has been a big reason why.
If they are to re-sign him this summer, it would cost lots of money, and one has to wonder if doing so to keep a player in decline would be wise, especially when they’re already in salary cap trouble.
