The New York Knicks have a bit of a curse.

Not many players are able to land extensions on their rookie contracts, and that lack of continuity has often hurt the team.

They’ve either failed to find and develop good talent or to hold onto it, and there’s no wonder why they’ve had a hard time getting back to the mountaintop.

Notably, that very same thing could happen to them again this season.

According to Fred Katz of The Athletic, Tom Thibodeau’s team is currently shopping G Quentin Grimes (via NBA Central):

“The Knicks are coming to a crossroads with Grimes, who is eligible after the season for an extension off his rookie-scale contract, the same type of deal that Quickley could have received but did not in 2023. Of course, New York flipped Quickley to Toronto,” Katz reported.

The Knicks are actively fielding offers for Quentin Grimes, per @FredKatz

Grimes is currently eligible to sign a similar extension to the one Immanuel Quickley was eligible for, yet the Knicks decided to trade him alongside RJ Barrett to the Toronto Raptors.

Grimes has been vocal about his frustration because of his lack of playing time.

He recently admitted that his confidence had taken a big dive because of his inconsistent playing time, adding that he just knew he was going to be subbed out if he missed a shot.

Grimes showed signs of great promise early in his tenure as with the Knicks but kept falling behind in the pecking order.

Coach Thibodeau has never been known for playing rookies or giving young players a long leash, and you’re going to have a tough time finding your way out of his doghouse.

So, even if his trade value isn’t that high right now, it seems like the best thing that could possibly happen to him, at least career-wise, is to leave.
