The New York Knicks have played well up to this point in the 2023-24 NBA regular season, with the team sporting a winning record of 13-9 and the prospect of another playoff run being on the horizon, with Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle leading the way.
However, the five teams above them in the Eastern Conference standings are clearly better than the Knicks, and the team lost one of its best big men in the form of Mitchell Robinson, who is dealing with an ankle injury.
With the Knicks needing to keep pace with the Indiana Pacers, Philadelphia 76ers, Milwaukee Bucks, Orlando Magic, and Boston Celtics in the East, New York has reached out to a familiar face to help fill the void left by Robinson’s absence.
According to Ian Begley of SNY, the Knicks have brought in veteran big man Taj Gibson on a one-year deal to help with their current depth issue in the frontcourt.

Obviously, at 38 years old, Gibson isn’t a game-changing talent for the Knicks, as he’s simply another veteran player with experience who has the trust of head coach Tom Thibodeau.
During his extensive playing career in the NBA, Gibson has played for five teams, including a stint with the Knicks from 2019 to 2022.
Gibson played 49 games for the Washington Wizards during the 2022-23 NBA season, where he averaged 3.4 points and 1.9 rebounds per game in 9.8 minutes per contest.
It’s uncertain at this point how much Gibson will see the floor during his second stint with the Knicks or if Thibodeau has plans to play him at all.
