The Boston Celtics made a huge splash in the NBA market when they traded for Kristaps Porzingis.
Porzingis could become the versatile scoring big man they have craved for years, an offensive upgrade over Al Horford, while also providing some occasional rim protection.
So far, so good for the Latvian big man, who’s having one of the best seasons of his career.
Notably, he admits that he fares much better as a third or fourth-scoring option on a contender than he did as a first or second-featured scorer with the New York Knicks or Dallas Mavericks (via NBACentral).
Kristaps Porzingis says he’s “much more effective” as a third or fourth option on a true contender in Boston than he was as No. 1 and 2 options in previous stints in New York, Dallas and Washington, D.C.

Porzingis has always shown flashes of great play.
He can put the ball on the floor, score from all three levels, and is one of the best shooters at the PF/C position in the game.
Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown demand too much attention from rival defenses, leaving Porzingis to get plenty of wide-open shots night in and night out.
As of now, he’s averaging 19.6 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game on 56% from the floor and 40% from deep, which are obviously elite numbers for a third or fourth-scoring option.
The Celtics have the deepest starting lineup in the game, even ahead of the Phoenix Suns or the Los Angeles Clippers.
They’ve been the team to beat in the Eastern Conference for years now, and this might as well be the season they’re finally able to get over the hump and raise another banner at the legendary TD Garden at the end of the year.
