To be perfectly honest, the Boston Celtics didn’t actually need Kristaps Porzingis this season.
However, that doesn’t mean that his impact wasn’t welcome or that they weren’t a significantly better team when he was on the floor, but it was a little overkill.
That’s why he pushed through his latest injury and decided to suit up for a potential game-clinching title.
When asked about that, the former New York Knicks star claimed that the adrenaline of playing at home definitely helped him, as he knew they had a chance to close things out (via NBA).
“Somehow I got it going for this game. A lot of it was for sure the adrenaline from playing at the Garden… having that opportunity to close it out.”

Porzingis’ final stat line wasn’t that impressive, as he finished the night with just five points and one rebound on 2-of-4 shooting, but he made a big impact on defense.
The Latvian big man has been prone to getting hurt throughout the course of his entire career, and that’s not likely to change at this point.
The Celtics only needed him to be on the floor for this moment, so it made sense for them to try and push him to get back on the court even if he was far from 100%.
Porzingis’ addition was a tipping point in the offseason, just like Jrue Holiday’s.
Brad Stevens deserves all the credit in the world for the way he put this roster together, especially considering he had to make some difficult decisions and moves to land a player like Porzingis.
