The 2022-23 NBA season was a disaster for the lowly Washington Wizards, with the team failing to live up to expectations leading to being eliminated from playoff contention in the Eastern Conference with a current record of 35-46.
With the Wizards unable to take a step forward this season, the attention turns to the offseason and potential moves that could be made to improve the roster before the 2023-24 campaign.
One major concern for the Wizards brass is the immediate future of star forward Kyle Kuzma, who will become an unrestricted free agent this summer.
Kuzma recently talked about his plans heading into NBA free agency and said the following about his mindset via Chase Hughes of NBC Sports Washington.
Kyle Kuzma on free agency this summer: “It’s not about money, I’m going to get paid regardless anywhere [I go] and here [in D.C.], too. It’s about can I come into work everyday and be the best version of myself.”

The free-agent class in the NBA is pretty weak this summer, with Kuzma likely to be one of the most sought-after players available if he doesn’t simply re-sign with the Wizards.
Kuzma joins the likes of James Harden, Kyrie Irving, Khris Middleton, Fred VanVleet, Draymond Green and Wizards teammate Kristaps Porzingis as players that will be up for grabs this summer.
Although Kuzma isn’t considered a superstar like Harden and Irving or a future Hall of Famer like Green, the one-time NBA champion has proven his worth and will have no shortage of suitors in free agency.
As for Kuzma’s comments, it’s uncertain what he really means, as it’s pretty vague and could be interpreted in different ways.
One thing is for sure, as it seems he’s open to the prospect of leaving Washington and may ultimately do that for a better situation somewhere else.
