The San Francisco 49ers have found themselves in a bit of a pickle.

They used the No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft on Trey Lance, who has struggled with injuries in his first two seasons.

In a time of desperation, they turned to Brock Purdy in 2022, who led the team to the NFC Championship.

Despite his brilliance in the back half of the season and the playoffs, Purdy is still a seventh-round draft pick.

Mr. Irrelevant isn’t supposed to play that well, which has left the 49ers with a major decision heading into 2023.

The 49ers’ starting quarterback for the 2023 season hasn’t been announced.

However, if head coach Kyle Shanahan’s recent comments are any indication, it appears he has a strong lean toward Purdy.

As reported by David Lombardi, Shanahan said, “Brock’s the real deal,” and later, “He knows how to play.”

Purdy tore his UCL during the 2022 NFC Championship, putting his future in jeopardy.

At the time, his status was unknown, and many believed that this would be a massive barrier for him to overcome.

Throughout training camp, it has been reported that Purdy looks better than ever, and is looking in line to get the starting job back.

Purdy’s bounce back couldn’t have come at a better time, as Lance has reportedly struggled throughout camp.

Will the former Mr. Irrelevant regain the keys to this offense, continuing to defy all odds?

Shanahan has a little more than a month to figure out the direction he wants to go.
