Ever since the San Francisco 49ers lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl in overtime in February, there’s been much speculation about the team’s offseason plans and whether the storied franchise would sign star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk to a lucrative long-term contract extension.
Although Aiyuk has proven his worth to the team, the 49ers haven’t been in any hurry to sign the 26-year-old to a new deal, which has led to rumors that San Francisco could end up trading him or possibly star wide receiver Deebo Samuel to another team before the 2024 NFL season gets underway in September.
As these contract disputes usually do, it has bled over into a mandatory minicamp, with Aiyuk not showing up, which has created quite a stir once again and more questions about whether he’ll be with the team come Week 1.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke to the media this week and addressed the Aiyuk situation, admitting he knows how the process goes regarding the business side of things in the NFL, via 95.7 The Game.
“We know what the process is, we know what the business part is,” Shanahan said. “That’s just how they decide how they want to handle this week.”

At this point in time, it is anyone’s guess what will happen with Aiyuk and what the team’s plans are concerning the star wide receiver’s future in San Francisco.
The fact that the 49ers drafted rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall might be a telling sign that the team might be ready to move on, but it could also just be a move to add more depth.
