The Baltimore Orioles took a 6-3 lead into the ninth inning on Tuesday night against the defending World Series champion Houston Astros at Camden Yards.

Despite loading the bases, they were a double play away from securing a win.

However, Kyle Tucker had other plans as he hit a grand slam off of Orioles closer Felix Bautista to put the defending champs in front, where they would stay to seal a jaw-dropping comeback win.

Tucker’s grand slam was quite impressive too, as it came on a pitch that clocked in at 100 mph.

According to Sarah Langs of MLB.com, this is the third-fastest pitch hit for a grand slam since the pitch-tracking era began in 2008.

Kyle Tucker’s grand slam was on a 100.4 mph pitch, the 3rd-fastest pitch hit for a grand slam in pitch-tracking era (2008) behind:

7/28/23 Bobby Witt Jr: 101.8 mph
7/21/23 Matt McLain: 100.9 mph

before last 3 wks, the leader (now 5th bc Marlowe): 9/28/16 Mark Teixeira, 99.6 mph https://t.co/DRW5RqYM1L

To be exact, the pitch clocked in at 100.4 mph.

Only two players have hit grand slams on faster pitches and both came this year.

Kansas City Royals star Bobby Witt Jr. hit a pitch that was 101.8 mph for a grand slam on July 28.

The week before, Cincinnati Reds slugger Matt McLain hit one on a 100.9 mph pitch.

Before the last three weeks, the leader in that category was Mark Teixeira, who hit a grand slam on a pitch that came in at 99.6 mph back in September of 2016.

Tucker’s grand slam proved to be the final blow in Tuesday night’s win over the Orioles, as it left the Baltimore crowd in shock.
