The deadline for NFL teams to sign their franchise-tagged players has come and gone.
Saquon Barkley, Josh Jacobs, and Tony Pollard didn’t come to terms with their respective teams, leaving them to play under the tag this season.
Many around the league rallied around these running backs, including Kyler Murray, who voiced his support for Barkley.
After Barkley shared an ominous tweet about the situation, Murray responded with: “Wild… hope everything work out for you bro, you deserve it.”

Many players and analysts have had a difficult time understanding why running backs continue to be devalued.
Despite being staples of their organizations, teams have shown hesitancy to sign older backs to long-term deals.
The same cannot be said about the quarterback position, which, as a whole, has encountered a different experience.
After just three seasons, Murray signed a five-year, $230 million deal with the Arizona Cardinals.
Although he was injured for a portion of the 2022 season, many wonder if the Cardinals overpaid for Murray, given his recent on-field output.
Barkley has been in the league for five seasons, and, despite his constant dominance, wasn’t able to reach a deal with the New York Giants.
The franchise tag deadline confirmed a lot of suspicions of what the league thinks about the position as a whole.
Will the devaluation of running backs continue to be the trend moving forward?
If the public outcry continues, and if elite players end up sitting out, it could result in a re-evaluation from organizations across the league.
