Through the first three games of the series, it appeared that the Boston Celtics were poised to sweep the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals.
The Celtics looked unstoppable in Game 1, and they took care of business in the next two games to take a commanding 3-0 lead.
However, the Mavericks decided it was their turn to put together a blowout performance, which they accomplished in Game 5.
While a comeback from being down 3-0 has never happened in NBA history, the Mavericks still seem to have a positive attitude.
This was put on full display by Kyrie Irving’s latest comments, which were shared by the NBA’s official Twitter account.
“Just thinking about the goal that’s in front of us as best as we can… Just putting our best foot forward and simplifying it,” Irving said.

Irving recognizes the position the Mavericks are in and knows that their backs are against the wall.
However, he doesn’t want to give in or quit and is only focused on the task at hand.
The Mavericks have heavily relied on Irving throughout the playoffs and Finals, as he has been a key contributor to their success.
He’s ready to fight for this team to the end, knowing he and Luka Doncic are among the best duos in the league.
Will this team find a way to pull off a historic series comeback?
That remains to be seen, but if Irving’s comments are any indication, they have the right mentality and players in place to give it their best effort.
