A year ago, if someone had said the Dallas Mavericks would be one win away from the NBA Finals right now in late-May, that person may be considered a dreamer.
But after missing the play-in tournament last season, the Mavericks now find themselves on the brink of the championship series, as they hold a 3-0 series lead over the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference Finals.
Kyrie Irving has been to the Finals three times before, and he was caught on camera saying that for the Timberwolves, Game 4 will be “their Super Bowl” but that it will be “just a normal game” for his team, per Abby Jones.
Kyrie Irving just said, “this is their Super Bowl. It’s just a normal game for us.”

Coming into this series, many seemed to be picking the Timberwolves because of their defense and length, as well as the fact that they had just dispatched the defending world champion Denver Nuggets in the previous round.
But Dallas has shown the qualities of champions in this series, while Minnesota looks like they aren’t quite ready to play for the NBA’s grand prize.
Irving won that grand prize in 2016 with the Cleveland Cavaliers, but he demanded a trade and was shipped off to the Boston Celtics a year later.
For years afterward, he has been embroiled in off-the-court drama, and he brought almost all of it onto himself.
But now, he is close to having a shot at a second world title, and if Dallas clinches a Finals spot, he would ironically go up against that same Celtics franchise he once played for.
