The Los Angeles Lakers want to add another star alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis, as they should.
Banking all their hopes on a soon-to-be 40-year-old and an injury-prone star with a history of inconsistency isn’t the wisest strategy, so it only makes sense that they want to add another factor to the mix.
Notably, most reports stated that they were close to adding Dejounte Murray last season.
Nonetheless, with D’Angelo Russell breaking out, they felt comfortable staying put.
More than that, Sam Amick revealed that the Lakers didn’t want to include Austin Reaves in any move for Murray, and that was a bit of a deal-breaker (via NBA Central).
The Lakers remain uninterested in trading Austin Reaves for Dejounte Murray, per @sam_amick
“Murray, meanwhile, was a player that the Lakers could have had at the February trade deadline if they’d been willing to put Reaves into the deal. He’s a possibility now, as well, but… pic.twitter.com/2Vctlb1nd0

Also, it seems like the Hawks are still more than willing to part ways with their combo guard and send him to Los Angeles, but the Lakers haven’t changed their stance on Reaves.
Reaves signed a big deal last offseason after being one of the best players in their trip to the Western Conference Finals, and the Lakers have always been quite high on him.
He’s got LeBron’s respect, and they found and developed him, so his ties to the organization are very strong right now.
Murray could certainly take plenty of pressure off LeBron’s shoulders as a playmaker, and he’s proven to be an impactful player on both ends of the floor.
Even so, if the Hawks want to move him to California, it seems like they’re going to have to look somewhere else in their roster or pool of assets, as Reaves is off-limits.
