Still just 25 years old, the first-round pick from the 2018 NBA Draft is about to enter his seventh season in the league.
Carter has battled injuries throughout his career and has never played in more than 62 games in any season.
However, the Duke University product is a quality role player when he is at his best. He has averaged 12.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game in his career.
With Anthony Davis manning the middle and Rui Hachimura also starting in the frontcourt for the Lakers, Carter would be more of a rotational piece. But it wouldn’t be a bad idea for Los Angeles to add some more youth and size to its roster.
New Lakers head coach JJ Redick also played at Duke, so he and Carter come from the same culture and mindset. That is an underlying reason why this trade could be a good move.
Of course, L.A. would have to give up some key assets in return, possibly draft capital and a player.
With LeBron James returning for yet another season, the Lakers are in win-now mode. This kind of trade fits that type of mindset.
