Who will the Los Angeles Lakers hire as their newest head coach?
That is a question that many fans and analysts are trying to answer.
The Lakers swiftly fired Darvin Ham after the conclusion of the 2023-2024 season, an indication of how ready they were to move on from him.
Ham wasn’t what the Lakers were looking for in a head coach, and the team is now ready to hire someone else.
Initial reports made it sound like J.J. Redick was going to run away with the job, but that might not be the case anymore.
According to reporter Dan Woike, the team recently completed an interview with James Borrego, which some of his sources called “impressive.”
Latest on the Lakers coaching search, Borrego interviewing (heard he was impressive) and possible assistant coach names that people have been talking about, some more likely than others. https://t.co/nmKf2UjoCk

Borrego’s name hadn’t been mentioned frequently to this point, so it was a bit of a shock to fans to hear that he was interviewing for this role.
He has been involved as an NBA coach in some capacity since 2003, so he does have a lot of experience under his belt.
Borrego was the head coach of the Charlotte Hornets from 2018-2022 and was most recently an assistant for the New Orleans Pelicans.
The Lakers would certainly present a new challenge for Borrego on his coaching journey, assuming he is who the team decides to go with.
Making a head coaching decision is difficult for any team, but especially for the Lakers, a team filled with so much history.
It will be interesting to see if they go with an experienced vet like Borrego, or if they’ll elect to go with someone like Redick, a recent NBA player.
