On Tuesday afternoon, the Los Angeles Lakers introduced the two players they selected in the 2023 NBA Draft, with the media and fans getting a look at rookies Jalen Hood-Schifino and Maxwell Lewis.
With the Lakers potentially being title contenders next season, it is uncertain whether Hood-Schifino or Lewis see the basketball floor during their first season in the NBA, as it seems likely that only an injury would open up a spot for them.
Despite the fact these two first-year players might not be household names anytime soon in Los Angeles, the introductory press conference had its fair share of laughs, mainly when Hood-Schifinio reflected on being told that he was only seven days old when LeBron James was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2003, via ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.
Jalen Hood-Schifino on the social media post going around on draft night that detailed how he was only 7 days old when LeBron James was drafted into the NBA: “I saw that … and was like, ‘Dang, LeBron’s old!’”

In December, James will turn 39 years old and will be a few games into his 21st season in the NBA, which is wild considering he has spent more time in the league than either of these rookies has been alive.
There’s no question that James is getting up there in age, and at times last season with the Lakers, it showed, but he is still going strong heading into his third decade in the league, as he wants at least one more shot at winning a title in purple and gold.
The Lakers will be a team to watch this summer regarding player movement as most of the team is either set to hit free agency or restricted free agency or is up for a contract extension.
