The Los Angeles Lakers are in the hunt for a new head coach.

This will be the fourth coach of the LeBron James era, so it’s not much of a surprise to see that they’ve only made it to the NBA Finals once during that span.

James’ tenure in Southern California hasn’t been exactly successful, and that run in 2020 looks more like an outliner than anything as the years go by.

That’s why the team needs to make sure that whoever they hire will be there to bridge the post-LeBron James era with the future.

The Lakers continue to be one of the largest sports markets, and they will continue to sell out tickets and sell plenty of jerseys, but that doesn’t hang banners in the rafters.

With that in mind, they’ve already started the interview process.

According to Jovan Buha of The Athletic, they’ve met with JJ Redick, Sam Cassell, and James Borrego.

The Lakers have begun interviewing candidates for their next coach, sources tell @ShamsCharania and @jovanbuha.

Borrego and Cassell both come with previous coaching experience, whereas Redick seems to be the biggest wild card here.

While he’s a knowledgeable and respected former NBA player who was around the league not so long ago, his lack of experience makes him a tough choice.

Also, his close relationship with LeBron James could make the rest of the locker room second-guess him from the very beginning.

The Lakers’ head coach position has the hottest seat in professional sports, and that might not be the way you want to get your coaching career started, not even if you have LeBron’s ear.
