According to Los Angeles Lakers head coach Darvin Ham, Anthony Davis is really ready to lead.

Speaking to Spectrum SportsNet following Sunday night’s preseason loss to the Milwaukee Bucks, Ham called Davis the “heart and soul of our team” and stated that the big man is eager for the responsibility of setting the tempo for the team in the season ahead.

Ham made one thing very clear: Davis is going to quite literally be the center of the Lakers.

This was supposed to be the plan all along.

When Davis was sent to the Lakers several years ago, the team swore that Davis would be the leader of the squad.

They said he was the future of the franchise but it didn’t really play out that way.

That’s not necessarily because Davis is a bad leader but mostly because LeBron James is such a good one.

It’s hard to be the first option on a team that features James and his once-in-a-generation talent.

However, Ham is saying that Davis’ time is now and he has done all the work necessary to take on such a special role.

He has not only made himself available but has done so consistently at a very high level, according to Ham.

He has also been taking care of his body, which is something that all Lakers fans want to hear.

It sounds like Davis has been working on his mind and his body at the same time, preparing both for the long season ahead and his position within the team’s rotation and culture.

Ham’s confidence in Davis was apparent during his post-game comments.

In a little more than a week, fans of the team will see what Davis is capable of.
