The Los Angeles Lakers found a defensive anchor in Jarred Vanderbilt last season.

Vanderbilt impressed the team last year and earned himself a four-year, $48 million contract from the Lakers.

However, Vanderbilt has been sidelined due to a heel injury since the first preseason game.

Previously, it was believed that he suffered soreness in his heel, but the injury has been updated to bursitis in his left heel.

NBA reporter Dave McMenamin revealed via his official Twitter that Vanderbilt will be out for at least two more weeks due to his heel injury.

Jarred Vanderbilt will be re-evaluated in two weeks, the Lakers say. Still dealing with bursitis in his left heel.

Vanderbilt will be re-evaluated in two weeks, and then the Lakers will make a decision about their veteran’s return to the roster.

Vanderbilt averaged 7.2 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game for the Lakers last season.

He played 26 games for the Lakers, started 24 of them, and took his defense to the next level during the playoffs.

In such a short span, Vanderbilt established himself as a crucial member of the Purple and Gold.

With the regular season now underway, the Lakers certainly need a defensive powerhouse like Vanderbilt on the roster.

The Lakers have started the new season with a 1-1 record, thanks to the brilliance of LeBron James and Anthony Davis against the Phoenix Suns.

The dynamic duo combined for 51 points against the Suns and led the Lakers to a 100-95 win.

Can the Lakers continue riding on the backs of James and Davis in the absence of Vanderbilt?

Fans will find out as the Lakers play their upcoming games.
