The Los Angeles Lakers didn’t have a lot of money to spend in free agency, but it’s not like they had a lot of needs either.
They wanted a better defensive point guard, and they got one of the best available at a very reasonable price when they signed Gabe Vincent.
Vincent made a name for himself last season with the Miami Heat, playing a huge role in their title run.
However, he had been there and earning his minutes for quite a while now before finally getting his payday.
That’s why, when JJ Redick asked him on “The Old Man & The Three” about his potential fit with his new team, Vincent seemed quite unbothered, citing his versatility as a player and all the things he’s done in the league thus far.

Vincent talked about how he was asked to do a lot of things for the Heat, whether it was playing in the corner, playing defense against elite point guards, sharing the backcourt with other guards, or playing alongside different styles of players.
Notably, that may not be that different from what Darvin Ham will ask of him, as he could share the floor with another playmaker like D’Angelo Russell or LeBron James, or he might be asked to go solo and run the second unit on his own.
Needless to say, the Lakers may not need him to be a 20+ PPG scorer — which has never been his role — but they will be satisfied with another 3-and-D, hard-working team-first kind of player .
