The NBA needs to find ways to make the Slam Dunk Contest an attractive event again.
Following the impressive performance Mac McClung had this season, fans believe the contest isn’t dead yet.
Even though NBA superstars keep overlooking the contest, other players appear to be getting interested in it.
For instance, Lonnie Walker IV of the Los Angeles Lakers has revealed that he may be partaking in this contest next year.
In a recent interview, Walker revealed that he was close to joining the contest this season, but he’s ‘highly considering’ going for it next year.

Lonnie is an electrifying dunker who doesn’t have the same pedigree as Donovan Mitchell, Ja Morant, or Zion Williamson, but he can surely put up a show.
Many NBA fans have dreamed of seeing a Lakers star participating in the Slam Dunk Contest, but it’s impossible to see LeBron James doing it at his age.
As stated before, Mac McClung was a huge addition to the contest.
The young player stole the show with his dunks, winning the big prize and a lot of respect.

Perhaps this year’s contest can be the beginning of a new era in the Slam Dunk Contest.
Lonnie signing his name on the event next year would be great to see, especially if other bigger names follow in his footsteps.
Meanwhile, he is focused on trying to help the Los Angeles Lakers reach the 2023 NBA playoffs.
Walker joined the Purple and Gold after spending the first years of his career with the San Antonio Spurs.
In 54 games, he’s averaged 12.0 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.2 assists per outing this season.
