Right now, all discussions about the Los Angeles Lakers relate to their hunt for a new head coach, but that isn’t the only commitment they will make this summer.

Many reports state that the Lakers will tweak their roster before next season begins.

Sean Deveney, per Legion Hoops, says an anonymous NBA general manager claims that Lauri Markkanen of the Utah Jazz is the Lakers’ “dream target” for the offseason.

But just because the Lakers want Markkenen doesn’t mean they can get him.

The idea of Markkanen playing alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis is very exciting to all Lakers fans.

He would add a lot of size, for starters, along with offensive skills.

The problem is that the Jazz will not accept just any deal for their star player.

Danny Ainge has repeatedly shown that he wants to play hardball when it comes to negotiations and he will demand a lot from the Lakers.

That means that if they want Markkanen, they will have to give up a lot more than simply their draft picks.

Instead, they will likely have to cough up a few other players too, including some youthful stars who could lead the team far into the future.

Are they willing to do that, especially since they are targeting Dan Hurley and his ability to coach young players?

The Lakers won’t be the only team trying to get Markkanen, who has become the best player in Utah and an All-Star over the last few seasons.

It’s not clear if the Jazz will entertain any possible trade but if they do, they will require a lot.

There is a very good chance they will demand far more than the Lakers can provide.
