The Los Angeles Lakers are hard at work attempting to find a new coach to replace Darvin Ham and they are taking their search very seriously.
Inside reports have said they want someone who will remain with the team for many years and take them far into the post-LeBron James era.
According to Jovan Buha and Shams Charania, via NBACentral, the team’s front office has a lot of belief in JJ Redick and thinks he could be like Pat Riley, one of the most successful coaches of all time.
Buha and Charania’s report says:
“Leaguewide, Redick — a former player and media analyst — has garnered buzz for the position. The Lakers are infatuated with Redick’s potential, according to league sources, viewing him as a Pat Riley-like coaching prospect who could both help the franchise in the short term and lead it for years.”

Riley led the Lakers during the 1980s and helped the team win multiple championships.
Riley not only changed the way the Lakers worked but many argue that he altered how the entire NBA functioned and looked.
His “Showtime” Lakers period is still one of the most celebrated in Lakers history.
It’s not entirely clear why the team’s management believes that Redick could be like Riley but a comparison to the iconic coach is definitely a good thing.
The Lakers think that Redick could be that special sort of coach who could help the team find success not only in the present but also in the years to come.
Does this report mean he’s the favorite to land the job?
There are other men in contention for the position and the search is just getting started.
However, this comparison to Riley is certainly good news for Redick and improves his chances of becoming LA’s new coach.
