With eight games left in the 2023-24 NBA regular season, the Los Angeles Lakers are hoping to secure the best seed in the Western Conference so that they can quickly get through the Play-In Tournament and start a playoff run.
Although the Lakers have come on strong as of late with Anthony Davis, D’Angelo Russell, and Austin Reaves playing really well as of late, the consensus seems to be that Los Angeles might not be able to compete with the best of the best in the Western Conference in the NBA playoffs.
If the Lakers end up flaming out in the postseason, which most people believe will happen sooner rather than later, the team will have some work to do during the NBA offseason.
In an attempt to keep LeBron James in town and playing alongside Davis, the Lakers will likely have to make a considerable upgrade to the roster, and it seems as though Trae Young of the Atlanta Hawks could be their trade target this summer.
According to Jovan Buha of The Athletic, Young will likely be the team’s trade target with Reaves possibly being the notable player sent to Atlanta in order to get a deal done via Legion Hoops.
“The Lakers are going third star hunting this offseason. You’ll probably have to give up [Austin Reaves]. The one name I hear is Trae Young. That’s the most realistic one right now.”

Although Reaves has been a much better player than anticipated when the team signed the undrafted guard a few years ago, the Lakers franchise is dedicated to winning, and the team hasn’t been able to achieve that throughout the majority of the James era in Los Angeles.
That said, the pressure will be on this summer to make moves to upgrade the roster to get this team back in title contention.
