The 2023-24 NBA season is officially over for the Los Angeles Lakers, with LeBron James and company falling short to the defending NBA champion Denver Nuggets in five games in the first round of the NBA playoffs.

With the Lakers’ season over, there’s been much speculation about James’ immediate future, as he controls his own fate moving forward with a player option for next season.

James sparked even more speculation last night after the loss in Game 5 by refusing to comment on whether he’d be back with the Lakers next season despite rumors that he intends to opt-out and sign a new deal with Los Angeles.

Obviously, James was a hot topic of discussion among his teammates last night, with Spencer Dinwiddie making an interesting statement about the four-time NBA champion in comparison to Michael Jordan, via NBACentral.

“I’d say globally, LeBron is a bigger icon, like business included. I think Jordan is a bigger hero, in a sense, just because he was so different from what we had seen. We’d already seen dominant guards and wings once LeBron came in,” Dinwiddie said.

This is an interesting comment as it could very well be accurate, but the impact Jordan had both on the court and off the court with his shoes and what he did for the game is still something felt today.

Regardless of whether Dinwiddie is right or wrong, the debate and endless comparisons between Jordan and James will seemingly never end, especially with the Lakers superstar still playing.

Although there’s no telling what the immediate future holds for James in terms of his playing career, the debate rages on about Jordan and James, as it could be one of those debates that never truly ends, with both icons still very much active off the court.
