While superstar quarterback and reigning NFL MVP Lamar Jackson was sitting out training camp practice due to an illness, longtime head coach John Harbaugh made a bold statement about his leader under center.

Harbaugh said the team’s goal, in addition to obviously trying to win a Super Bowl title, is to make Jackson the greatest quarterback of all time, which is a strong statement, to say the least.

That’s a lot of pressure to put on a young quarterback, even though Jackson has shown he could be one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game with his versatile skill set.

On Monday, Jackson was healthy enough to finally return to the practice field and spoke to the media afterward, where he fielded the question about Harbaugh wanting to turn him into the greatest to ever do it at the quarterback position.

Jackson immediately admitted he’s not in that category, which is currently owned by former New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers superstar Tom Brady, according to Sarah Ellison of The Vault podcast.

“I’m not the GOAT, Tom Brady is the GOAT,” Jackson said. “But I believe that is motivation. I appreciate that [from coach]. I’m still on my way.”

Ravens QB Lamar Jackson was asked about John Harbaugh saying the goal is to make him the greatest QB of all time:

Clearly, Jackson knows that he shouldn’t throw himself into that conversation and likely isn’t all that happy with Harbaugh’s comments, even though he is probably a bit flattered that his coach thinks he can get there one day.

As of right now, Jackson’s mind isn’t on the GOAT conversation in football, but rather on getting back to 100% and being prepared for the 2024 NFL regular season, which will get started with the Ravens going on the road to face the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs in Week 1 at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
