LaMelo Ball hasn’t been in the league for long, but he’s already written his name with permanent ink in the Charlotte Hornets‘ history books.
The talented guard is officially the first player to ever get a rookie supermax contract extension with the organization, signing a deal that could pocket him as much as $260 million over the next five years.
Needless to say, the younger brother of the Ball household claims he wakes up every morning knowing he’s blessed to do what he does, adding that he’s always looking forward to winning, leading, and taking baby steps to lead the organization going forward.

Despite multiple injuries that kept him on the shelf for more than half of the season in 2022-23, LaMelo is the undisputed franchise cornerstone in Charlotte, even ahead of star rookie Brandon Miller.
That became even more evident when the Hornets decided to take Miller over Scoot Henderson, who seemingly had a higher upside but played in the same position as LaMelo.
It’s been a while since the Hornets were a playoff team, and they have never gotten past the first round in franchise history.
This team is young and exciting to watch, and LaMelo will look to be the one player that could finally get them over the hump and go deep into the postseason.
For that, though, he’ll have to stay healthy, and the Hornets will have to keep adding more talent around him, maybe trading for a couple of veterans to develop a winning culture within the organization.
