Despite an offseason where they added several talented players to the roster, the Los Angeles Lakers are in free fall midway through the 2023-24 NBA season.
The Lakers came into this season as an expected contender, but since winning the NBA In-Season Tournament they have been one of the more baffling teams in the league.
Los Angeles head coach Darvin Ham has come under fire for his lineup choices and rotation patterns, while the players have been underperforming on the floor.
Even strong performances from LeBron James and Anthony Davis haven’t been able to get the team out of it’s rut, and it doesn’t appear things will get better unless the front office makes a move.
Fans can forget about their championship hopes and must begin to entertain the possibility that the Lakers could just outright miss the postseason.
With Los Angeles currently sitting in 11th place with a 17-19 record, their playoff odds have dropped drastically via Basketball Reference.

The Lakers were given just a 0.3% chance of making the playoffs when they started 2-10 during the 2022-23 NBA season, so this team is used to beating the odds.
However, it’s hard to feel confident that they could do it again given the current state of affairs both on the sidelines and within the locker room.
With pressure mounting to win games and turn around the season, the front office will surely be working the phones in the coming weeks to see if they can add a player or two to inject some life into the team.
