The Golden State Warriors almost pulled off one of the single greatest moves in NBA history.

According to a report by ESPN, later confirmed by Stephen A. Smith, they tried to trade for LeBron James.

Smith confirmed that his agent, Rich Paul, killed the deal because James was happy in Los Angeles.

Fast forward to the All-Star Game, and LeBron James claimed that he was unaware of this story.

Talking to Shaquille O’Neal, Charles Barkley, and Kenny Smith, James stated that he found out about this at the same time as everybody else, adding that the trade talks didn’t get that far (Via NBA Central).

Notably, that would pretty much dismiss the report.

Rich Paul likely would have not killed the trade without asking James.

Also, the report states that Draymond Green reached out to Warriors owner Joe Lacob to sell his pitch, and Green is very close friends with LeBron, so chances are he had already hinted at this idea multiple times in the past.

LeBron could become a free agent at the end of the season, as he has a player option for next year.

So, who knows? Perhaps the Warriors could pick up their interest in him again next season, although the fans might not be thrilled with this idea.
