Team USA was so stacked with NBA talent that they managed to win the gold medal despite not even playing all of their players.
Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton made three appearances and played a grand total of 26 minutes.
That’s just how things go when you’re surrounded by the creme of the crop.
The fact that even Jayson Tatum, a defending NBA champion, the highest-paid player in the league, and one of the faces of the game also piled up DNPs speaks volumes about the amount of talent on this roster.
With that in mind, when asked to give this team a nickname, just like the Dream Team or the Redeem Team, LeBron James called them ‘The Avengers’ (Via Oh No He Didn’t 24 & Hoop Central).
“There’s the dream team, the redeem team. What’s this team?”
LeBron: “The Avengers.”

Of course, he didn’t exactly come up with this name, as they’ve been referred to as that even before they actually confirmed that James, Kevin Durant, and Stephen Curry would team up.
This was a beauty to watch for basketball fans, and it truly felt like a passing of the torch or sort of a Last Dance.
We watched the three absolute best American players of the past two decades side by side and wreaking havoc on the court, and that’s something unlikely to happen ever again.
It may have been unfair to the rest of the world, but sometimes, you just have to bring the top players to make a statement.
