It will never matter how much time has gone by; LeBron James will forever be remembered as a Cleveland Cavalier.

Some will say — and rightfully so — that he was at his best when he was with the Miami Heat, and some will always hold grudges against him for leaving in the first place, but he’s still the greatest player in Cavaliers history.

That’s why, unlike the average NBA player, no one batted an eye when James arrived at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse to watch his former team take on the Boston Celtics in the second round of the playoffs.

Local fans no longer boo him, and he was quite welcome there.

Then, following the game, he was spotted embracing his former teammate, fellow Cavaliers great Anderson Varejao (via Danny Cunningham).

Several fans wish LeBron had never left and tried to build a legacy there like Kobe Bryant, Dirk Nowitzki, or Tim Duncan, but that’s not how things work nowadays, and that shouldn’t be a knock on him, either.

James gave the Cavaliers everything, including an NBA championship.

Unfortunately for the fans, he’s not likely to retire as a member of the organization, as his entire business operation and family are based in Los Angeles.

Still, it would be nice to see him run it back in Cleveland at least one more time before riding into the sunset and calling it quits.
