After missing the playoffs in 2019, the Los Angeles Lakers knew they needed to give LeBron James a true superstar partner.

With pressure mounting to win, the Lakers swung a blockbuster deal for Anthony Davis that changed the NBA landscape.

James and Davis were a fit made in heaven as their games naturally complemented each other on the floor.

Eventually, the superstars were able to lead Los Angeles to a title in the Bubble, tying the franchise for the most titles in league history with the Boston Celtics.

Although the two have yet to recapture that same level of success, the 2023-24 NBA season feels like a year where they could get back to the mountaintop.

Davis has assumed more leadership responsibilities so far this year, and James had nothing but high praise for his teammate via Mike Trudell.

“AD is great. AD is amazing. We’re co-captains and he’s just as much a leader of this team as I am. He’s everything that this franchise could ever want and more; he’s one of the greatest bigs to play for this franchise for sure,” James said.

James knows very well just how talented Davis is and he’s got all the tools needed to lead a team to a championship.

The knock on Davis for his entire career has been his health as he always seems to get hurt during the regular season, but when he’s on the floor he’s one of the game’s most dominant two-way forces.

When James retires, Davis is expected to take the mantle as the franchise’s next superstar and this season is his chance to prove that their bet is correct.
