LeBron James’ decision to run it back with the Los Angeles Lakers was met with mixed reviews.
On the one hand, moving to another team and city at this point in his career may not have made a lot of sense.
On the other hand, it seemed like he was settling and acknowledging that may not get another chance to win an NBA championship.
Fortunately for him, he still has an opportunity to add another piece to his trophy cabinet, and it’s the ultimate sporting trophy: an Olympic gold medal.
More than that, he’s going to have — literally — the weight of an entire nation on his shoulders, as he was voted by his fellow Olympians to be the United States’ flag-bearer in Paris.
As pointed out by Brian Windhorst of ESPN, he’s the first male basketball player to receive that honor in U.S. history.

This is no small honor, and the fact that he continues to make history at this point in his career only adds to his already incredible résumé.
LeBron’s longevity and durability are second to none in basketball history, and this speaks volumes about that.
Team USA has its work cut out for them in the Olympics, and it won’t be easy.
But being most likely his last chance to win something as a player, you better believe James will play every game like it’s Game 7.
