The Los Angeles Lakers will have their seventh coach in the last 13 seasons.
JJ Redick will also be the 10th coach in LeBron James’ career, which equals to about a coach every two seasons.
That speaks volumes about how difficult it has been for coaches to mesh with and survive LeBron throughout the course of his career.
That’s why having someone who is close to him in the locker room might have been the best decision for the organization.
Recently, LeBron talked about his excitement about getting to work with Redick and his new assistant coaches, Scott Brooks and Nate McMillan (via Spectrum SportsNet).
“I’m super excited to work with JJ,” James said.

For weeks, Redick was reported to be the front-runner to land the job, with the fans being worried about his lack of experience as a coach.
James claimed that he didn’t have anything to do with his hiring, but everybody knew about their podcast together, which had just a handful of episodes before he joined the team.
Whatever the case, Redick is clearly a very intelligent person with immense basketball knowledge, and adding two experienced coaches with head coaching experience to his coaching staff was the right move, even if neither of them seemed to be his first choice.
It takes a lot to find success with the Lakers, but at least it seems like their new coach has LeBron’s blessing, and that could take him a long way.
