After a disappointing end to the 2023-24 NBA season for the Los Angeles Lakers, the storied franchise headed into the offseason determined to make some changes while also hoping to re-sign superstar LeBron James, who had the opportunity to opt out and leave the team as a free agent.
Fortunately for the Lakers, James never seemed to consider going elsewhere and ultimately ended up re-upping on a two-year contract.
Although Lakers brass accomplished its goal of keeping James, it also made some questionable moves in order to do so, as they hired his friend and former podcast co-host JJ Redick as their new head coach and then drafted his son Bronny James, who couldn’t average more than five points per game in college at the University of Southern California.
Despite all the criticism LeBron James and the Lakers front office received for these moves, the four-time NBA champion still enjoys life while addressing questions about playing with his son next season, like whether Bronny James will get to call him “Dad” on the basketball floor.
“[He] cannot call me ‘Dad’ in the workplace,” LeBron James said on “The Shop.” “Once we leave out of the [practice] facility and the gates close, I can be ‘Dad’ again. … He got to call me, like ‘2-3’ or ‘Bron’ or ‘GOAT’ if he want to. It’s up to him.”

Although this is a strange dynamic because it has never happened before in the NBA, Bronny James and LeBron James must figure this out while trying not to make it awkward for their Lakers teammates.
However, it is uncertain how much Bronny James will be playing on the NBA level during his rookie season, as many believe he’ll be suiting up for the South Bay Lakers in the G League for most of the 2024-25 campaign.
